The 1% first-slab tax is a Social Security Tax; it is waived for those contributing to the Social Security Fund (SSF). Female employees with only remuneration income get a 10% rebate on the computed tax. Tax is charged on taxable income (gross minus allowable deductions such as SSF/PF/CIT and insurance).
